Textual Analysis' of Music Videos
Music Video 1 - Walk Me Home by P!nk
P!nk released the music video to Walk Me Home in 2019. It follows her as she walks around a dark street, dancing. What's interesting about the video is that she's dancing with shadows. The eye-catching scenes show P!nk leaning backwards or being lifted in a way that isn't possible for one person. The audience can clearly see that the people have been edited out, but leaving the shadows of them in creates a new dynamic to the video.
Music Video 2 - Take On Me by a-ha
This remastered in 4K music video brings forward the technique of animation in normal life. Each frame was hand drawn, making the video as a whole a masterpiece. The story is relatively easy to follow, making it easier for the audience to really appreciate the graphics,
Music Video 3 - High Hopes by Panic! At The Disco
This music video features a singer and a very tall building. The lyrics talk about aiming high in life and achieving anything you want (“High high hopes for a living, shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing”), and the video reflects that. The scaling of the video is very realistic, then changing into the performance element at the end on the top of the building is very interesting to watch.
Music Video 4 - Someone To You by BANNERS
This video incorporates different stereotypes of secondary school and broadcasts them. Everyone knows the stereotype of the ’nerdy kid that eats by themselves’ and the ‘kid that isn’t very good at gym class’, and BANNERS brings that into the limelight with their music video to their song. In the end it shows the stereotyped kids banding together and accomplishing something, and sends this powerful message out into the world through the catalyst of the song.
